Sell Your Books in 4 Easy Steps

Here are the easiest ways to sell your books for bigger profits:

1. Understand your target audience. Do your research to understand the online behavior of your prospects and to identify the elements that can affect their buying decisions. Jot down the websites that they usually visit and the amount of time they spend online. Also, know what elements that you can use to push their emotional hot buttons. Knowing these information can help you easily connect with these people.

2. Advertising budget. You need to know early on if you want to spend money (and how much) for your advertising cost. If you are like most people who'd rather save some dollars especially right now when the economic is down, you may opt to use free marketing tools to get exposure online. All you need is great writing skills so you can use article marketing, blogging, forum posting, and ezine publishing.

3. Offer free chapters. You can easily capture the attention of your prospects if you use the word "free" on your marketing messages. Offer a couple of chapters for free to those people who are most likely to buy from you. Your goal here is to give these people just enough information to tickle their imagination. If they are satisfied with what they have read, there is a great chance that they'll purchase your books.

4. Follow-ups. Get in touch with people who have previously shown interest over your books but haven't made a purchase yet. Call them up or send them follow-up emails. Each time you do, make sure that you communicate the compelling reasons why they should buy your books to easily influence their buying decision.

What To Include On Your Author Web Site

Now, that you've decided to create a website, you may be wondering what pages to include. This is actually the fun part. As time goes on you'll probably add more and more pages, but here are the bare bones basics that all authors should think about including on their site.

Home-

This page is just a short and simple welcome letting people know who you are and what your site is all about. You can include any new information such as book release dates, upcoming interview dates and more so fans can find it quick.

Bio-

This page should have a photo of yourself, preferably a head shot. It should also include both a short bio and longer bio telling readers about your background and writing history. Try not to be too formal and let your true self shine through with the longer version of your bio. The short bio can be a paragraph written in the third person. Why? If someone wants to review your book, do an interview, or approach you to do a guest spot you'll have this short and more polished bio handy. The longer version bio on your website written in the first person helps your reader get to know you better and form a bond with you.

Publishing History-

On this page you can include clips of articles you've written, blog posts to bigger sites, etc. Although you may feel that some of these things are "no big deal" getting credit for publishing something whether online or in a hometown newspaper or magazine is still something to brag about.

Book Releases-

On this page you'll want to give a short synopsis of the book or books you have published with a direct link to the sales page. Many authors simply post the blurb of the book then include some excerpts to get potential readers interested in buying and to show them your style of writing. Include any positive reviews or awards your book has received.

Blog-

Although Webs.com (the only web hosting company I use!) has a blog page, what you'll want to do is list the link for your Blogger or Wordpress blog on this page. Why not just post your blog here? Blogger and Wordpress are huge and get a lot of traffic. You want to be seen and having your own blog is a great way to drive traffic to your website and creates a back link to your site, which is important for getting listed in the search engines.

Contact Me-

A simple page that many site owners leave out. You want to give an agent, editor, publisher, and fans a way to get in touch with you. Your name and an email address are fine. Don't put your home address or phone number where just anyone can get a hold of it. If you have a PO box, you can include that since it's pretty safe.

Media-

On this page you'll want to include any past and upcoming media appearances. Whether you're being interviewed on someone's website or radio show, or doing an all-out virtual book tour, be sure to include the dates and links to any outside websites where you'll be hosted.

Starting and keeping up a website doesn't have to be difficult, expensive, or time consuming. If you spend an hour or two on it each day you'll have everything running smoothly and readers stopping by your site in no time.

How to Write a Book That Sells

Bookmark and Share

What's the key to writing a book that sells?

That's simple.

You must write a book your audience will want to read.

Quite often I meet writers who don't concern themselves with their readers as much as they do with the "message" they hope to impart to these readers via their book.

There are a couple of HUGE problems with this way of thinking.

First, if you write a book mainly because you have a strong message for your readers, your book will tend to become WAY too preachy.

When this happens, you won't find a publisher for your book because good publishers realize that readers do not want preachy books.

Second, if you choose to self-publish your book (which you'll have to do since this is the only way you'll be able to get your message out to the world), then you'll still end up with a preachy book no one wants to read. But now, you'll have a basement or garage full of these books.

A good coach can help you avoid these problems by showing you how to figure out just what your audience wants to read.

You can still weave "your message" into your manuscript.

But you will learn to do it in such a way that your readers will think your only reason for writing your book was to provide them with the help they needed.

When you write a book like that, you'll have a book publishers will be willing to publish and readers will be willing to buy!

So, don't just write a book. Learn to write a book that will sell!

How to Promote Your Book on Radio Shows

Bookmark and Share

Want to promote your book? Be a guest on radio talk shows nation-wide.

You can do it from your own home -- you don't have travel. You have half an hour of thousands of people's time, regaling them with your stories and information, making them want to get more by purchasing your book, and it doesn't cost you anything.

You need to know how to get invited as a guest on radio talk shows and you need to know how to behave once you are on the air. To get scheduled, you contact the show's producer. To find the producers' contact information and what they are looking for, you could do Internet searches and call the stations. You can save yourself a lot of effort and time by buying a database for under $150. The database comes with the book not only on how to use it, but all the other things you need to know about being on radio talk shows.

Here are a few things you need to know about how to behave when you're on the air:

One, you are there to make the show's host look good. If you don't make the host look good, you certainly won't be invited back, and you may even get hung up on.

Two, supply the hosts with 10 or so questions before hand. The questions should make the hosts look as knowledgeable as if they've even read your book. You can have strong answers prepared to those questions.

Three, speak in sound bites. Few things are as boring on the air as one person talking on and on and on. The only thing worse is just answering "yes" and "no" to every question -- it doesn't fill air time, and it's not entertaining. Give a short and entertaining answer for each question.

Four, give away your information freely. Don't give away everything about your book, of course, but if you're tightfisted about information, the audience isn't going to like you. What you want is for them to remember how entertaining and knowledgeable you are. They are not going to remember all the information you've given them, but they are going to remember where they can go to find it and even more information -- your book.

Five, don't push your book. Being entertaining and giving away information is the best sales pitch for it. At the end of the interview, the host will give you time to tell the listeners where they can buy a copy of your book. Tell them then.

You can't afford to buy the kind of advertising you can get on radio talk shows for free.
